Web Design Essentials:
Your website should reflect your business. It’s pointless to have a website with flashy banners, pop-ups and animation if you are, say, an accountant. Your visitors would be more interested in information about your accounting background, credentials, clientele, services and reputation than the wizardry on your website. Here are a few tips to consider while designing a website.
Colours
Match your website’s colours to what your visitors or customers “expect?to see. Although, this is very tough to do, put yourself in your customer’s shoes and get a sense of how they would like your website to be laid out.
Text
The rule, “content is king?still applies. 90% of people still browse the Web to get information so add meaningful and current information on your site and update it regularly.
Graphics
Don’t overuse graphics. There is no reason to have animated characters or Flash apps on your site unless you have something so unique to say that they are required to explain the finer points. Many graphics on the website increase the loading time of the website; they are hard to find by Search Engines and they distract visitors from the true message you are communicating.
Navigation
Interlink your pages. Make it very easy for the visitor to go back and forth between the various pages of your website, especially if information is spread over the entire website. The user should always get the feeling he is within the same site and can easily go from point A to B and back.
Contact
Provide your contact information at various places throughout your website. In an online world where online id theft and fraud is becoming more common, customers want to feel more secure by knowing with whom they are dealing. An email address or telephone number mentioned on the website can greatly assuage those fears.
