Your logo is a visual representation or an association in the mind of the consumer. The one thing to remember while designing your logo is that it should be able to travel over a wide variety of media: print, broadcast, web, email and fax.
Experts agree that if your logo works well in B/W it will work in colour as well. Start the design in black and white and then add colour. Choose one or two colours and keep reinforcing it to your audience.
Add text to your logo such that it immediately conveys your company’s name or an idea about your business. It is best to make your logo a combination of text and symbol. Otherwise, it takes considerable resources to promote an abstract design and make it familiar to your customers.
Size matters in logo design. Your logo must be capable of being printed on the smallest bottle cap to the biggest billboards. So make your logo scalable. Basically, what that means is that it can become any size, large or small, without appearing distorted or “pixilated.?A logo in a vector format takes care of size issues. Save it in various file formats like eps, pdf, jpeg and gif for use in different media.
